As a general premise the studio will explore the intersection of two important issues confronting Phoenix: 1. The shepherding and celebration of water in the desert; 2. The development of engaging public spaces in the contemporary city. These issues will be explored within the context of the design of a Desert Water Education Center located adjacent to Tempe Town Lake in Tempe, AZ.
In addition, the studio will explore the potentials of precast modular concrete systems to structure and organize space, create an efficient building strategy, produce experiential and poetic effects in relation to water, and passively condition space.
